A small, very graceful fern with an unusual shape. The slender, shiny, black or brown upright stem forks into 2 curved horizontal branches, Each branch gives off 5 or 6 horizontal, outwardly pointing leaflets, each subdivided into oblong sub-leaflets. The overall appearance is circular or horseshoe-like. Fruit dots are oblong and near the upper margin of the sub-leaflets. Found in rich woods and woods borders. |
